Southwick, Sunderland

Southwick is a region on the north banks of the River Wear, it is known locally as Suddick. It’s borders are with Castletown in the west, Monkwearmouth in the east, farmland in the north and the Wear in the south. The queen Alexandra bridge bridges Southwick to Pallion.

The main police station which operates for the north of Sunderland is located in Southwick, there is also a primary school, but not a secondary school. Southwick is located right in the middle of The Green which is an area that has three listed buildings, a World War 2 memorial, the Tramcar Inn pub, built in 1906 and a memorial lamp post that was built in 1912.

A report made and released in 2000 stated that Southwick is the most deprived area in Sunderland and the fifth most deprived area in Tyne and Wear and the fifty-fifth in  England. Its names is Scandinavian and literally means "clearing by a marsh".
