Nightlife in Sunderland, things to do...

Sunderland is a city that knows how to enjoy itself, with numerous exciting vibrant bars, cafes, restaurant and clubs as well as traditional charming northern pubs. Sunderland has also recently been voted as one of the finest nights out in the country, ending eighth behind bigger cities like Leeds, Manchester and London; this is mainly because of "The circuit", which consists of around 65 bars and 9 clubs all within minutes of each other located in the St Michaels and Park Lane regions of the City Centre.

Sunderland has its own very well known theatre located on High Street West, Sunderland. It also has a greyhound racing stadium called Regal Sunderland Stadium. One of Sunderland’s finest wine bars/Restaurants is called Twelve2 Sunderland located in Sunniside, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear.

Some more vibrant bars/clubs are listed below:

Chase
Opened April 2002, an old school designed bar fitted with large leather sofas and an impressive spiral staircase. Downstairs has a huge L-shaped bar and upstairs has two more bars and a wooden floored dance floor. DJs every night playing R&B, soul and house. The mixture of music seems to suit the venue ideally

Bar Me
A rectangular room with a large bar down one side and windows down the other side. Stone floors and vibrantly painted walls give a Mediterranean feel. Very popular with the younger crowd, it tends to get very busy at weekends. One of only venues to have a pool table. A blend of modern and future chart hits with plenty of party classics.

Luma
Should you favour a cosier, quaint place that has an excellent ambience, then consider this your new home. Positioned on the ’strip’, this is one of the trendier places to be seen. Pleasant crowd, unique blend of locals and high end visitors. This is your jeans and t-shirt crowd.

The Point
The Point is Sunderland’s most recently opened entertainment complex, opened September 2005, consisting of four venues in one. The four venues are The Union, Purple Bar, Arizona, and Velvet. The building itself was once the City’s cinema but was empty and derelict for a long time until it had a multi-million pound re-development.

There has also been a new underground music scene recently evolving in Sunderland, which has been voted the best by NME. Many different venues throughout the Sunderland city play host to frequent live music nights, with bands and artists from all over the UK.
